Vacuole Sam Nelson
-Larger in plant cells than animals cells
-Membrane bound
-Hold waste products
-Changes shape depending on amount of water
Vacuoles serve an important role in the life a cell. Vacuoles are closed sacs, made of plasma membranes that store water and waste products. They filter harmful substances out of the cell. Animal cells have this organelle but most of them are small. However, in plant cells, vacuoles are larger in size and often take up much of the space in the cell. Vacuoles are found in both eukaryotic and some prokaryotic organisms.
A fact that surprised me was that "there is no specific shape or size of a vacuole. It occupies a large volume of a plant cell, as much as 80%" which prior to studying organelles was unknown to me.
