Biogenesis

Biogenesis

* The production of life from already living matter or organisms.
* Biogenesis occurs constantly.
* An example of biogenesis is the division of bacteria, trees shedding seeds, and cows calving.
* Biogenesis is a new understanding of how life reproduces.
* Biogenesis is different from spontaneous generation which is when people thought that organisms come from out of nowhere.
* Scientists see biogenesis as the only natural source of living things.

Reflection:
In summary, biogenesis is a theory where all living things come from other living things. Nothing comes from out of thin air and everything must come from something. I learned that people used to think that living things came from out of thin air. They thought that when mice and flies were abundant near straw and meat, they thought that the mice and flies come from either the straw or meat. It was disproved by Louis Pasteur in the 1860s. What surprised me was this whole subject because I never knew about this. This can be applied outside of biology by helping scientists. Scientists use this theory to figure out stuff like if they discover a new species they can determine where their genes come from. (?)

  1. In what ways could this be applied to fields like medication? Good layout by the way.

    1. Biogenesis can't really be applied to any other fields of stuff because it's just a theory that was proven. I guess you can use it to determine what life was like before us but that's just it.

  2. This is a good post, and very well put in the summary/reflection.

  3. Why does biogenesis only occur in natural sources?

    1. Biogenesis only occurs in life, like when a child is made. Biogenesis doesn't really have anything to do with stuff that is manmade.

    1. People thought life just appeared out of nowhere. Also there was technically no life before biogenesis. Biogenesis is just a theory anyways.

  5. You have good information but I would like to know why biogenesis only occurs in natural sources.
